Thanks for dropping by and taking the time to check out the ClobberCalm blog. So what is it about?
Basically, it’s just me admiring great quality clothing (manly denim and leather goods), enjoying the community, sense of friendship and unity that comes from sharing images with like-minded dudes on the internet.
Instagram is a platform that has given so many of us blokes the chance to express our love for the threads we sport on a daily basis and, what’s better, we have also had the pleasure of being influenced and educated by each other.
Anyway back to the question, what is it about?
The ClobberCalm blog is about me working one-on-one with a like-minded gent to reveal a little more about the personality behind the feed. Some of these guys have tens of thousands of followers and this does not happen without reason.
I just wanted to know more…
I was honoured when these guys agreed to be a part of this and they have been super helpful. It doesn’t hurt that these were the first 2 guys I noticed when I started to take an interest in the denim and boot world on Instagram. With plenty of Selvedge Denim/leather/indigo/bootage and one fantastic beard these guys really set the bar for me and its great that the feature below gives us an insight into how and why!
MEET THE MAN BEHIND THE MENSWEAR
NAME: Julien Landa aka @julienlanda
LOCATION: Rotterdam, Netherlands
OCCUPATION: Painter [Fine Arts]
1. So why Instagram?
Some years ago I went to Amsterdam to buy a pair of Redwing shoes. The salesman there complimented me and my wife for the way we looked and asked if I had any pictures of my clothes
I did not and made a couple for him, he said something about posting them on Instagram but i did not know what this was
I looked into it and decided to sign in then I got the idea to take a selfie every day for one year to show what i wore
After a year i wanted to stop but in the mean time i got a couple of thousand followers and quite a lot asked me to go on
So I did, not very anymore but about 3 to 4 times a week
2. Why Denim, Boots, Workwear, Ruggedness?
Because that’s what I like I love the more rugged looks and the history of the workwear as well
3. What are your thoughts on the rise in popularity of “Instafashion” and the community it is creating?
It is very interesting to see what people are doing worldwide with their fashion, you meet people who love the same type of clothes worldwide
4. Top 3 brands to shop and why?
My first is RRL, then Polo Ralph Lauren, when I was young I used to make my own clothes.
When we were on a holiday in St. Tropez I went in to a store and to my surprise I saw the same clothes that I had been making for myself, the store was a Ralph Lauren store
From that day I was hooked on RL
5. Where’s your favourite place to shop these brands?
It used to be in New York when I exhibited my work there we loved to shop in NY. Nowadays unfortunately I have to buy RRL online
6. When did you decide to voice and share your love for your clobber on social media?
See answer #1
7. What’s the secret behind your great images; Who takes them? When are they taken? How do you capture the magic your followers enjoy so much?
I started my career as a professional photographer, did it for about 8 years after that we went to live in the south of France but after one and a half years we had to go back to the Netherlands [broke]
We had to start all over again and that’s when I decided to become a painter
When we walk the dog in the afternoon we take the pictures with the iPhone, I tell my wife where to stand and she takes the picture
8. What feeds do you like to follow and check in on? Who should we check out?
9. What tips would you give new starter on instagram to help them get there feed off the ground and successful?
Have a good look what others do and post the things that make YOU happy
10. And Lucky Last, You’re going to be stranded on a desert island and you can take 1 outfit (4 items) only with you.
What would they be? And Why?
When I was to be stranded on a desert island the last thing I would worry about was how I looked but I chose 4 items anyway
A pair of sturdy boots, a pair of cargos [handy to put things in your pockets], a t-shirt and probably a leather jacket [for when it gets cold]
Be sure to keep tabs on here as, each week at 10pm on a Thursday, we will post a fresh feature about another one of your favourite, real blokes that enjoys sharing their passion via “Pics” on Instagram.
Next week we have @outlinedcloth whose sunny, boot filled images never fail to make me feel a little jealous on a daily basis…
Anyways, I hope you enjoyed browsing this as much as I did. There is plenty to learn if your interested.
