@fadedblueeyes answers the 10@10

Hallo guten abend.

By the looks, many-a-man has had the opportunity to break out the HEAVYWEIGHT denim for the season due to the current climate in many places…brisk!

Treat the boots, break in the denim, chop the wood and enjoy the layers.

So many great images from the denim community are flying around on Insta at the minute, it’s packed with inspiration and ideas of how to sport durable fabrics and footwear. Such a good time for newbies to jump on the IG band wagon at this time of year when it’s at it’s strongest.

Now, moving on from newbies, let’s talk about tonight’s 10@10 bloke Jim aka @fadedblueeyes. Jim is anything but a newbie and has been posting on Insta since 2010. An ex tattooist who has opted to follow a career in his passion for threads rather than his obvious artistic talent. In a strange kind of poetic way there isn’t that much difference as both killer threads and killer ink are used on a very personal level to demonstrate ones’ thoughts, feeling and personality. It’s all art and expression.

With that being said, Jim I’m handing over to you now buddy…

Guys, sit back, relax, crack open a beer and listen to the thoughts of Jim as @fadedblueeyes answers the @clobbercalm 10@10.

MEET THE MAN BEHIND THE MENSWEAR

NAME: Jim aka @fadedblueeyes
AGE: Almost 51…December 1st!
LOCATION: Cologne, Germany
OCCUPATION: Retired tattooer of 25 years, currently Manager at Pike Brothers (Cologne)

1. So Why Instagram?

I came to IG in 2010 following a lot of my tattoo buds. I love the visual effect. Not much is opinion. Just shots of inspiration.

2. Why Denim, Boots, Workwear, Ruggedness?

I guess it’s just in my blood. I come from a family of working men and women. Farmers, truck drivers, construction workers and I did a lot of that myself. Also all were avid outdoorsman and I learned that from a young age. Clothes should be tough and last long. I think I always romanticized workwear as being what a real man wears.

3. What are your thoughts on the rise in popularity of “Instafashion” and the community it is creating?

Dude! I think it’s great. There are so many good people out there sharing their looks, ideas and experiences. It’s great. Also I find the Denim and boots crowd to be such an open and friendly subculture. IG is a great way to keep contacts or make new ones.

4. Top 3 brands to shop and why?

Pike Brothers. I love the philosophy and integrity Fabian has built the company on. High quality, European made clothing at an affordable price.

Iron Heart Denim. I love the detail and extreme high quality Hirakisan has divorced to the line. You really get what you pay for.

Red Wing Heritage. Its’ long line of tradition and high quality blows me away! Great comfort and basically a shoe that keeps giving due to patina and the advantage of resoling. Definitely my favorite footwear.

5. Where’s your favourite place to shop these brands?

Pike Brothers Cologne.

Iron Heart Pop Up Store Cologne.

Red Wing Cologne and Red Wing Berlin/Hamburg.

6. When did you decide to voice and share your love for your clobber on social media?

Like I said, I came to IG through tattooing but I soon got into “selfies” lol! I did lots of selfies at first and slowly began to realize there was a better way to go. Following lots of really inspirational people you start to get the “picture” so to say. I think this year it just really started to click for me.

7. What’s the secret behind your great images; Who takes them? When are they taken? How do you capture the magic your followers enjoy so much?

Ahh well, I don’t know about magic…slight of hand may be more accurate. Lol. I, like most, am still doing selfies. I just don’t focus on the headshot anymore. I don’t even have a little tripod or the likes. Just prop the iPhone up on whatever I can and set the timer for 10 seconds. They get better the more I take. It’s funny sometimes I have to take 10 shots because of people walking into frame or bad positioning. It must be embarrassing somehow but I don’t care.

8. What feeds do you like to follow and check in on? Who should we check out?

Oh Man! There are SO many guys I follow who have answered dumb questions and also who commented and encouraged me and still do. I will name a few… Ruedi – @swissjeansfreak, Bert – @bvo_66@corymahlke@bothrops1@mooky_bc@vonabiszett@rvamensch@johanmalik80 and this guy I think you know called @clobbercalm

9. What tips would you give new starters on Instagram to help them get there feed off the ground and successful?

Take your time. Concentrate on one or two images. And have fun. Don’t take it too seriously but feel free to ask people for advice.

10. And Lucky Last, You’re going to be stranded on a desert island and you can take 1 outfit (4 items) Only with you.

What would they be? And Why?

Ok tough answer because all my favorite stuff is more suitable for a, somewhat, cooler climate. Haha, I’m going to pretend my island is a perfect California fall temperature.

1. I’m taking my favorite 19oz. IronHeart 555’s…cause I just got them really right. ha!

2. My Redwing 877 Irish Setter dead stock! Boots for climbing hills, trees or whatever.

3. My Pike Brothers 1958 Roamer jean jacket. Perfect for those fall evenings and a great beach jacket all around.

4. I think it’s gotta be a Chambray shirt! My Lee 101 Japanese Chambray is currently my fave. Light and also warm. Perfect fit.

…And to drink, well I’m going to have to say coffee! In my Stanley thermos which has to be in my Filson Original Briefcase. Hahaha. I snuck that in under my Roamer jacket. This with the exception of a hat and water would get me by for a long time. I’m sure I could find a natural spring for water and I’d weave myself a hat out of some palm fronds.
