@partial2denim answers the 10@10

Hello folks.

*Just to note that the thumb must have slipped when scheduling this post as we realise it went live at 10am this morning before we added photos and conducted our final quality check. We can only apologise and hope that you understand these things happen? Thanks guys.*

So it’s Thursday, it’s less than 24 hours away from 5pm Friday which is the signifier that it’s the Mo’fu’n’ weekend.

I’d like to say Friday is the perfect opportunity to enjoy a beverage but I’m sure most (like me) don’t care what day of the week it is…beer’s beer. In my book, a pint on any day that ends with a “Y” is acceptable. Friday’s are for good moods or it seems that way and a cold one is for, well, any mood in my book.

So anyways, this evening’s feature paraglides towards, somewhat of a gentle giant as we speak to, a buddy of mine Paul aka @partial2denim.

A man of somewhat impressive height, Paul stands as a mountain in his Raw’s & Red Wings and looks awesome doing it. Not an easy feat for the taller guys but Paul and his impressive frame does it effortlessly on a daily basis. It’s awesome having Paul on here as I speak to him personally on a weekly basis about many different subjects. He’s always willing to lend a hand if I’m looking for an opinion or throwing out a few objectives in order to obtain a little market research. He’s an all-round good bloke and for me that is better than any denim, although chatting Raw is always fun! 😉

Dudes sit back, relax, crack open a bevvie and enjoy the thoughts of Paul as @partial2denim answers the @clobbercalm 10@10.

MEET THE MAN BEHIND THE MENSWEAR

NAME: Paul
AGE: 37
LOCATION: Australia
OCCUPATION: Researcher and Educator

1. So Why Instagram?

I love the instant nature of it and at its best – its honesty: you put a shot up, that hopefully has been taken without too much preparation, and you get feedback. I really like to think of us as being open individuals, who put ourselves out there and really express who we are and what we are into.

2. Why Denim, Boots, Workwear, Ruggedness?

First thing I got bought that I felt was really cool was a pair of Levi’s for dance I was going to when I was 12 – been hooked on denim ever since. Selvedge came later but the idea of garments made right has always appealed to me. Also where I am from boots, generally from RM Williams, are a pretty standard part of one’s kit. I have always just been drawn to things that are made to last and look good too.

3. What are your thoughts on the rise in popularity of “Instafashion” and the community it is creating?

I am across a whole bunch of social media and IG is easily my favourite. I am yet to meet a person in the raw denim community I have not liked, one can hardly say the same about Facebook or Twitter. All I have had is pleasant interactions that are devoid of ego and I can truly say I have made friends just from IG – amazing. I also really love how progressive and open the community is. Instafashion is great also, I get a lot inspiration and really helpful feedback. I feel like it is the best way to engage in the fashion industry.

4. Top 3 brands to shop and why?

@redwingheritage / @rgt / @railcarfinegoods

Always loved US kit and these brands are the right mixed of workwear and fashion. Yet to find a piece from them I don’t like, they all do things the right way (production and ethics) and engage well with the community.

5. Where’s your favourite place to shop these brands?

All over! I buy direct from stores and also a lot from eBay and Grailed. Want to give a shout out particularly to Australian based stores: @urban_lupe, @godspeedstore@redwingaustralia and @corlection. Great product ranges and service.

6. When did you decide to voice and share your love for your threads on social media?

Jan 2017, had lurked for a while and finally pulled the trigger on contributing and engaging – so pleased that I did.

7. What’s the secret behind your great images; Who takes them? When are they taken? How do you capture the magic your followers enjoy so much?

As I mentioned above, for me, I like to think of images on IG as being taken without too much preparation and staging (I like the “Insta” in Instagram). Thus, I take all my own shots on my iPhone. I normally take them in the morning before I head off for the day. Used to take a lot of shots of my kicks, but now generally do a “what I am wearing” shot each day and a weekly wrap up/review.

8. What feeds do you like to follow and check in on? Who should we check out?

Wow, just so so many. @clobbercalm and @jmietzel were early followers (back) of mine who were really welcoming and supportive. @sirjoms, @illcutz, @boothunter, @myself_and_denim, @scwaudby_33, @shadows_of_indigo, @denim_hound, @johanmalik80, @urban_lupe, @bvo_66, @zeinharis, @indigonanner, @indigoshrimp @raw.denim, @raw.denim.ocd, @sel.vage, @doppki, @newenglandmenswear and @denimbitch (to name but a few) are other kind souls who are great to follow and interact with.

9. What tips would you give new starters on Instagram to help them get there feed off the ground and successful?

Don’t take it too seriously, remember its fun, shoot stuff you like and interact with others.

10. And Lucky Last, You’re going to be stranded on a desert island, you can take 1 outfit (4 items) and 1 drink ONLY with you.

What would they be? Who made them? Why are you taking them?

Studio D’Artisan Storm Rider, black tee, RGT Stantons and Red Wing 879s. Favourite pieces at the moment and practical in almost any setting…even a desert island.

Awesome, Paul’s responses are a perfect representation of what IG is…fun!

It shouldn’t be thought about too extensively. It’s not about being a super networker or shoving your opinions in front of folk, it’s about taking a few minutes to interact with likeminded chaps and chapettes worldwide, maybe taking a quick smartphone snap and then cracking on with your day in, you know, the real world! 😉

Paul it’s been great to have you on here bro and no doubt we will be speaking soon. Thanks for your time mate!

Well that’s it for this week I think. I still have something to share that I’m going to leave for now as I’m gagging for an early night. I’ve been burning the candle at both ends this past few weeks and today I’ve suffered a little.

Have a tip-top weekend everybody and I look forward to chatting again next week!

Take care, be safe and stay close.

Ben @clobbercalm.
