@MOMURRAY_OAKLAND ANSWERS THE 10@10

Well, good evening...

Maaaaan I love this weather, finished work and went for a ride into the Peak District with the Triumph. So lucky to have such beautiful scenery and roads on my doorstep.

Anyway, back to the important stuff, Brands! Tonight we have got little Morgan from Oakland with her brand MoMurray... so, let's take 10 and listen to Morgan as she tells us about @momurray_oakland and answers the @clobbercalm 10@10.

MEET THE BRAND BEHIND THE MENSWEAR

NAME: Morgan Murray AKA @momurray_oakland
POSITION: Owner
ESTABLISHED: 2013
LOCATION: Oakland, California
SIZE OF TEAM: 1
SPECIALITY/COMPANY FOCUS: From design to production - this is a one woman show. I make the things I want to use - things that will last.

1.  Straight forward, Please tell us. How did MoMurray Start out?

It was a slow process. Years ago I had a wallet that fell apart and I was having a terrible time finding a replacement, so I decided to make one. that led to making wallets for friends - I didn’t have a sewing machine, so these were all stitched by hand. one day my wife bought a little old sewing machine for me, so I started thinking about other possibilities.

I’m really small, so tote bags are always dragging the ground if I carry them by the handle - I decided I would make my own. I made my first tote in August of 2013 - before the year was over - I got my business license, an industrial sewing machine and started working away!

2. Tell us. What does an day in the life of yourself look like? What’s your daily work routine?

Everyday starts with coffee on the couch with my cat Murray - my wife joins us for a bit - then I start official business by scrolling through Instagram … once I pull myself away I’ll go through emails and handle any website whatnot. Luckily the bulk of my day is spent sewing and hammering copper rivets!

3. What are your top 3 bestselling items? And why do you think this is?

The Zip Tote - this bag can hold a crazy amount and it’s loaded with pockets, so it’s been really popular for travel and baby bags. I use mine for travel, and I like that it will still fit under the airplane seat when it’s full. The

Briefcase - this is a great everyday bag. it fits most laptops and has a pocket for everything.

The Dopp - perfect little toiletry bag. the body and lining are both waxed canvas, so you don’t need to worry about something exploding and getting all over your luggage. if there isn’t room on the counter - you can easily hang it from the handle on a hook or door knob - I use locking zippers, so if you pull it half way down - you’ll be able to reach inside and grab what you need without everything tumbling out.

The Houseboat - another bag full of pockets. this is a great tote with a nice base, so it doesn’t fall over easily. I use mine for trips to the market, an overnight getaway or picnic time (fun fact - the outside pocket can hold your beer)

Sorry - I threw in a fourth … I really love chatting about bags!

4. What’s your personal favourite when it comes to the items you manufacture?

This is constantly changing - right now it’s flip flopping between The Briefcase and The Doctor

5. What are your thoughts on the rise of Instagram fashion and the chaps that post their clothing on there to help spread the word of their fave brands?

I love it - it’s how I found some of my favorites!!

6. Has it made an impact on your business at all do you think?

I’m sure it has - it’s a great way for people to discover new things and keep track of what their favorites are doing.

7. Is there any feeds on IG that you particularly like to check-in on regular. What brands are you fond of on there? What menswear feeds to you like to peruse?

I’m a huge fan of @indigo_proof - she fixed my favorite jeans, and I’m always amazed by her work. @rgt and @railcarfinegoods are a couple of my favorite brands - I like to follow along to see what they’re making and how they’re making it. a few people I like to follow to see what they’re wearing: @denimbitch, @jeffdepano, @sanforizedson, @bothrops1, @welldresseddad

8. A quick one about you. Other than the business what passions do you have in life? What flicks your switch and helps you relax?

I love walking. My wife and I will take long adventure walks through the city, and I always manage to lead us to beer and fries … maybe I just really love beer and fries!!

9. What do you consider to be the best thing about your business and why?

I love making things, and having other people use and enjoy the things I make is amazing! I recently met a woman that bought one of my bags from a local shop and has used it everyday for the past three years and it’s still going strong.

10. And last but not least...you’re going to be stranded on a desert island and you can take 1 outfit (4 items) with you and 1 choice of drink. What would they be and Why?

This is a tough one...

Jacket: I would love to take the Rogue Territory Type III jacket or Railcar Explorer jacket, but since I’m a little lady that loves menswear - I’m just too small

Shirt: Jcrew button up

Pants: Rogue Territory SK 16.75 slub - repaired by @indigo_proof

Shoes: Grenson - womens version of the Fred … think they were called Emma?

Bag: MoMurray - The Briefcase or The Doctor … still flip flopping

Drink: Beer - either Fort Point Villager IPA or Moonlight Brewing Death and Taxes black lager

With you 100% on the choice of beer. Thank you very much for answering the 10@10, if you don't already make sure you go follow @momurray_oakland
