Anyway, today the 10@10 travels to Moscow to speak to Ilya of @redhillscompany. I’m sure most of you will already have come across their products, in one way or another, but if not just drop #redhillscompany in the search bar and within minutes you will be catapulted up-to-date with what this small, independent leather company do!

If I had to describe Ilya’s Red Hills Co. in one word I’d use “manly”…

It’s been great to get these guys over on the 10@10 so, without further ado, lads (and lasses) it’s time to sit back, relax, crack open a beer and enjoy the thoughts of Ilya Zotov as @redhillscompany answers the @clobbercalm 10@10.

1. Straight forward, please tell us, how did your company Red Hills Company start out? (For people that don’t already know)

In the summer of 2013 I was dreaming of leather belt loop for myself. So I bought required at leather shop and crafted it my home. One of my friends noticed my belt loop when i started to use it, so he ask me to make the same. After a few I made for fun I decided to give it a name. I was living at Krasnogorsk city then, so I just translated name of the city – Red Hills.

2. Tell us. What does a day in the life of yourself look like? What’s your daily work routine?

Usually I wake up early to spend morning with my wife and little son. Sometime I have some things to do, for example, buy materials or prepare some parcels or deliver orders to my Moscow customers. As soon as the things get done I arrive to my workshop (with a cup of coffee and my favourite sandwich with hum and cheese of course). Next hours is given to crafting new wallets and answering mails. My skills and income depends on how many time I give to it, so I try to give it a lot! After a 9 p.m. I close the doors and return to home.

3. What are your top 3 bestselling items? And why do you think this is?

Wallets is Red Hills’ bestsellers. So Short and Medium is most popular purchases and third bestseller is Wallet Cord for them. I think it becomes popular because of its usability and universal nature. You can put in euros, dollars or roubles and it stay safe on the cord. Also, branded coin snap give a cool fade on your back pocket and it as bigger as longer you use the wallet. So it changes as you are.

4. What’s your personal favourite garment when it comes to the items you manufacture?

My favourite is Medium Wallet made of vegtan. I’m a general tester for that so it gets better and better until I feel fully satisfied to use it everyday for myself. As well these days I’m looking forward to start using Short Wallet for my denim project.

5. What are your thoughts on the rise of Instagram fashion and the chaps that post their clothing on there to help spread the word of their fave brands?

It’s great! I like to read stories about experience of men who wears 32 oz. denim in hot summer days. Just kiddin’! Of course it should be very useful to review goods you are wearing – for crafters and for customers, through.

6. Has it made an impact on your business at all, do you think?

Fucking good! Fans from Sweden, Netherlands, UK, Germany and other countries spreads the word about Red Hills and help us connect to the worldwide community of guys with steel balls. Ha-ha! In Russia where Red Hills is originally from, there is a lack of people understand charm of using hand-crafted leather goods. So we are thankful for every opportunity to work with customers from Europe, America and Asia.

7. Is there any feeds on IG that you particularly like to check-in on regular. What brands are you fond of on there? What menswear feeds to you like to peruse?

I admire bloggers from Europe. A lot of them based at Netherlands: Morteza @mori.nl, Jerry @vorstenbos, @bluerootsofficial and it’s members: Koen @dry.indigo, Jeroen @jeroenbredewold, Hans @hansjellema and Jason @jasonvanpul. At my feed, you can find also Hen’s Teeth @hensteethitaly from Italy, Ricki Hall @rickisamhall from UK, Andreas @andreasbergstrom83 and Johannes @sennah0j from Sweden, Cory @corymahlke from USA and Johan @johanmalik80 from Indonesia. And we like @clobbercalm too, especially friday beer posts  From Russian blogger I like Manar @manar_has – he’s an adept of workwear. Recently I follow Grade Co @grade_co – they got a great sense of style and I strongly recommend to check them up.

8. A quick one about you. Other than the business, what passions do you have in life? What flicks your switch and helps you relax?

I appreciate spending time with my family. I have an experience in snowboarding and camping trips so it’s always cool to turn into it.

9. What do you consider to be the best thing about your business and why?

It makes me living  And I love all the way of this – from choosing a suitable piece of leather to receive reviews from customers. And it’s cool to communicate with guys from the whole world through. Damn, I even got a tattoo with our logo on my hand!

10. And Lucky Last, You’re going to be stranded on a desert island and you can take 1 outfit (4 items) only with you. And 1 choice of drink.

What would they be? And Why?

Years of camping experience tell me to choose a pair of dependable boots, necessarily knife, an ignition and handbook about agriculture. Is there an source of pure water? If yes, then a few pints of oatmeal stout.

Ah so you’re an outdoors man Ilya? I imagine those experiences contribute to the personality you cement into your product. Top stuff bro and thanks for giving us your time!

Now we have another busy 7 days with loads happening so, rather than me rabble on, just cast your eyes over the snazzy little calendar brother Cal knocks up each week below! It’s all there…
